The African beauty was named in the 19th century after the island of Reunion, which was then still known as Bourbon Island. Originally, the orchid, whose delightful fruit pods we enjoy, comes from Mexico, where Aztec rulers were said to have appreciated the sweet aroma in their cocoa as early as the 14th century.
